Shopping in Madrid can be so much fun…ESPECIALLY if you’re my wife and get ahold of my credit card. LOL! J You seriously need a good 2 weeks of vacay to really enjoy it though…so plan ahead for sure. The best areas to shop in Madrid are the streets of Xiquena, Almirante, Conde and the district of Salamanca, where you will find international designer clothes, shoes, leather, jewellery and other gifts for the kids/family/friends…I mean cmon, you can’t go home empty-handed, right???

There are big department stores located in and around Puerta del Sol vicinity, and on the streets of Goya, Princesa and Castellana. You should really take some time to go around the open-air markets in Madrid…it’s a trip! The most famous open-air market is called El Rastro where you can find so much stuff you wont believe…they have great, valuable antiques, second-hand clothing (the good stuff though!), collectors books, records, paintings, etc. Around Plaza Mayor you will find many shops that sell traditional Spanish articles, fabrics, hats, and religious articles. There are even book fairs where you can get new and used books! Have fun shopping!
